How to choose a MEWP
A specification-led process for choosing a MEWP by work position, access route, capacity, surface and operating environment.
Start at the work position
Define the required platform height, horizontal outreach and basket load. On booms and truck mounts, maximum outreach may only be available at a reduced load or within a restricted slew sector.
Check the complete access route
Measure the narrowest width, lowest height, turning space, gradients and floor or bridge loading from unloading point to work position. Stowed dimensions matter as much as operating dimensions.
Confirm operating conditions
Check indoor or outdoor rating, wind limits, ground conditions, stabiliser footprint, emissions restrictions and rescue arrangements. A database shortlist does not replace a competent site assessment.
